Devon, England - A Country Scene: A poignant snapshot of Devon, England during the 1940s, as Canadian fire-fighters of the Corps of Canadian Fire-fighters (CCCF) take a moment to rest amidst the picturesque English countryside. Established in 1941, the CCCF, also known as the Volunteer Corps of Canadian Fire-fighters, was an overseas military force that served in the United Kingdom during World War II. The Canadians were stationed in various locations throughout Britain to provide emergency firefighting support to the British Home Front. This image, captured circa 1942, shows a group of CCCF firefighters gathered around a campfire in the rolling hills of Devon. The men, dressed in their distinctive red uniforms, appear to be enjoying a well-deserved break from their duties.
