In this evocative image, Guru Nanak Dev (right), the founder of Sikhism in 1469, is depicted in the company of his successor and the last of the Ten Sikh Gurus, Govind Singh (1666-1708). The serene expressions on their faces, their haloed heads, and the regal attire they wear convey a sense of divine authority and wisdom. Guru Nanak Dev, born in 1469 in the Punjab region of present-day India, is considered the founder of Sikhism, a monotheistic religion that emphasizes the importance of devotion, service, and equality.
