As part of the Royal Navy's First World War effort, the HMS Douglas was one of the many ships constructed during this period to bolster the British naval forces. The Scott class destroyers, named after Admiral Sir John Fisher's admiral, were designed for anti-submarine warfare and were an essential addition to the fleet during the war.
