In this evocative image, an Ilyushin IL-76TD cargo plane, registration number 90VD, operated by Volga Dnepr, takes off from the runway carrying a precious cargo of humanitarian aid bound for the disaster-stricken Philippines. The photograph captures the moment of departure, as the massive aircraft, a symbol of international cooperation and goodwill, ascends into the sky, leaving behind a trail of dust and exhaust. The year was 2013, and the Philippines had been devastated by Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms ever recorded.
