Born in Corsica, Lannes joined the French army at the age of 16 and quickly distinguished himself in the French Revolutionary Wars. He gained fame for his victories at the battles of Rivoli and Novi, where he commanded the French cavalry. In this portrait, Lannes is depicted in the uniform of a marshal of France, adorned with his star and sash. His piercing gaze and stern expression convey a sense of focus and resolve.
