Born as Christian Henrietta Acland, Harriet was the daughter of the prominent English family, the Aclands of Coleshill, Wiltshire. Her marriage to Colonel Acland in 1774 marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey that would take them to America. Colonel Acland, a distinguished soldier, served in the American Revolutionary War, and his family accompanied him during his military assignments.
