Established on 1 April 1965, the GLC-LFB was formed by the merger of various fire services in and around London. In order to manage the enlarged Brigade, it was divided into three command areas: Northern, Eastern, and Southern, each with a Command Headquarters. The room is filled with a myriad of equipment essential for managing the firefighting operations in the Northern Command area. The control unit is home to various communication systems, maps, and other tools necessary for coordinating the deployment of fire engines, lorries, and appliances. The GLC-LFB's fleet of vehicles included a diverse range of fire engines, lorries, and appliances, which were strategically located across the command areas to ensure rapid response times.
