LFDCA-LFB Demountable pods and bulk foam unit
Lorries capable of carrying demountable pods were introduced into the London Fire Brigade to transport different classifications of pods to incidents as required. Typical pods were bulk foam (as shown), damage control (salvage) pods and hose laying pods. They were crewed by a driver only and both the bulk foam and damage control pods would be delivered, demounted and collected later whilst the unit returned to the base station and reloaded with a different pod

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from the 1990s, we witness a London Fire Brigade (LFB) lorry carrying a demountable bulk foam unit. Introduced in the early 1990s, these lorries were a significant addition to the firefighting fleet, enabling the transport of various demountable pods to incidents as required. The London Fire Brigade utilized these lorries to transport three main types of pods: bulk foam, damage control (salvage), and hose laying pods. The bulk foam pod, as depicted in the image, was a crucial asset for firefighting operations. It was delivered to the scene, demounted, and later collected while the unit returned to the base station to be reloaded with a different pod. The driver operated the vehicle alone, ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of essential equipment to the incident site. Both the bulk foam and damage control pods were designed to be demounted upon arrival, allowing the firefighting team to access the contents and begin their work as soon as possible. The hose laying pods, on the other hand, were used to supply water to the incident site and could be quickly deployed and connected to the hydrant system. This photograph, taken in the 1990s, captures a pivotal moment in London Fire Brigade's history, showcasing the innovative use of demountable pods and lorries to enhance firefighting capabilities and improve response times. The vibrant red and yellow colors of the vehicle and pod add to the striking visual appeal of the image, making it a fascinating glimpse into the past of London's firefighting services.
