Born in 1685 as the eldest daughter of Victor Amadeus II, Duke of Savoy, Marie Adelaide's life was marked by political alliances and royal marriages. At the tender age of 12, Marie Adelaide was betrothed to the Dauphin of France, Louis, the future Louis XIV's heir. The marriage took place in 1697, and Marie Adelaide became the Duchesse de Bourgogne. Her union with the Dauphin was significant, as it strengthened the ties between the French and Savoyard courts.
