The 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 82nd Airborne Division, dropped near Gourbesville early on June 6, 1944, during Operation Neptune, the naval invasion of Normandy. However, due to the dispersal of troops during the drop, the area was not fully secured until June 15, 1944.
