This handcolored engraving, created by Fournier after an original illustration by Meunier, showcases two fascinating European wildlife species: the European Badger (Meles meles) and the European Pine Marten (Martes martes). The image is taken from Charles d'Orbigny's Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle (Universal Dictionary of Natural History), published in Paris in 1849. The European Badger, a member of the weasel family, is depicted in the foreground.
