This photograph showcases the Government Aircraft Factories (GAF) N-22S Searchmaster, registration number VH-HTG (msn N22S-160), in its prime during the late 1980s. The N-22S Searchmaster, a variant of the N-21A Nomad, was developed by GAF for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as a maritime patrol and search and rescue aircraft. The image captures the sleek lines and robust design of the Searchmaster, which was renowned for its versatility and durability. The aircraft's distinctive features include its high-mounted wings, large tailfin, and the prominent radome housing its search and surveillance equipment. The Searchmaster was powered by two Rolls-Royce Dart Mk 312-3 turboprop engines, capable of generating 1,800 shaft horsepower each, providing the aircraft with a maximum speed of 215 miles per hour and a range of over 1,500 miles. The Searchmaster's versatility was demonstrated by its ability to perform various roles, including maritime patrol, search and rescue, and medical evacuation. It was equipped with advanced sensors and communication systems, enabling it to detect and locate surface and airborne targets, as well as provide real-time intelligence to ground forces.
