The meticulously detailed illustration features seven distinct species: Callidium longipes (1), Coccinella septempunctata (3), Jauravia dorsalis (2), and four different types of flea beetles - Altica cincta (4), Altica emarginata (5), Altica chrysis (6), and Cryptocephalus crispus (not depicted). The ladybirds, with their vibrant colours and distinctive spots, are shown in various poses, some with their elytra (wing cases) open, revealing their intricately patterned abdomens. The flea beetles, on the other hand, are depicted in various stages of life, from larvae to adults, with their characteristic long legs and jumping ability. The engraving also includes various elements of the natural world that provide context for these insects.
