This stunning chromolithograph depicts a proud Silkie or Silky cock and hen, the first prize winners in any variety class at the prestigious poultry show held in Bristol in 1871. The intricately detailed illustration, created by J.W. Ludlow and published by Vincent Brooks Day & Son after an original work in Lewis Wright's The Illustrated Book of Poultry, showcases the unique beauty of these birds. The Silkie breed, also known as the Hamburgh Silkie or Nankin Silkie, is characterized by its distinctive silver-black plumage with a fine, silky texture, giving it an exotic and otherworldly appearance.
