This exquisite handcoloured copperplate engraving depicts a young woman of the 16th century, an era marked by the reign of the renowned King Francis I of France (1515-1547). The young woman's attire reflects the opulence and elegance of the time. She dons a chaperon headdress, which is shaped like a bonnet, adding a touch of sophistication to her appearance. The chaperon is adorned with intricate lace and pearls, symbolizing her high social standing. The young woman's dress is made of rich purple velvet, a luxurious fabric favoured by the nobility during this period. The wide sleeves of her gown are adorned with delicate lace, adding a feminine touch to her ensemble. A pearl belt cinches her waist, accentuating her slender figure.
