This evocative image captures the signing of the German-Polish Nonaggression Pact in 1934, an event that defied the expectations of many in the international community. Amidst the backdrop of the Versailles Treaty's lingering shadows, Germany and Poland put aside their historical grievances and forged a path towards peace. The Treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919, had imposed significant territorial losses on Germany and had allocated Polish territory from the former German lands. Yet, here we see the German Foreign Minister, Konstantin von Neurath, and his Polish counterpart, Józef Beck, exchanging documents under the watchful gaze of their respective leaders, Adolf Hitler and Ignacy Mościcki. The olive branch in the foreground symbolizes the hope for a new beginning, a chance to bury the hatchet and move past the bitter memories of the past.
