Scene from Japanese Noh Drama, Eguchi

Scene from the Japanese Noh Drama, Eguchi - the yokyoku (noh song) Eguchi is thought to have been composed by the priest Ikkyu-Zenji. It is a dream fantasy, about a Buddhist priest on a pilgrimage, who sees a vision of a woman who died some years earlier, enjoying a boat ride on a stream running through Osaka by the light of the moon. As he watches, the boat transforms into a white elephant, and the woman transforms into a spirit and floats away. The scene shown here comes at the climax of the drama, just before the woman transforms. It was performed at the Kyoto Nogakuden
