This evocative photograph captures some of the officers of the British Antarctic Expedition on board the Terra Nova as it returned to New Zealand in February 1913. The discovery of the bodies of Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his companions, who had tragically perished during their attempt to reach the South Pole, had been made just a few weeks earlier. In this image, we see a diverse group of men, each with their unique roles in the expedition. In the back row, from left to right, are Mr. A. Cherry Garrard (animal physiologist), Lieutenant H.E. de P. Rennick (naval officer), Boatswain A. Cheetham, Engineer W. Williams, and Biologist Mr. E. W. Nelson. The middle row features Surgeon G. M. Levick, Mr. T. Gran, Lieutenant V.L.A. Campbell, and Lieutenant H.L.L. Pennell. In the front row, we find Lieutenant W.M. Bruce (geologist and second-in-command), Mr. T.
