United States Marine Corps - Douglas C-117D Skytrain 50835 (msn 43321, unit code WZ, call-sign 835 ) in 1963-65(WZ is tail-code for AIRFMFPAC - Air Fleet Marine Force, Pacific) Built for the United States Army Air Force (USaF) as C-47B-DK (msn 15553 - 26998). January 1945 to United States Navy as R4D-6 50835.1950s: Modified to R4D-8 with new msn 43321 and redesignated C-117D in 1962. December 1979 : withdrawn from use at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. Sep85: registered as N835TD The last C-117D to serve with USMC, it was on static display at MCAS Miramar, CA. and seen at the Marine Corps Museum, MCAS El Toro CA. on 13 March 1993. Date: circa 1964

This photograph showcases the United States Marine Corps' Douglas C-117D Skytrain 50835, with tail code WZ and call sign 835, during its service with the Air Fleet Marine Force, Pacific (AIRFMFPAC) in the mid-1960s. Originally built for the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47B-DK 43-49737 in 1945, this aircraft was later transferred to the United States Navy as R4D-6 50835 in the 1950s. In the 1960s, it was modified and redesignated as C-117D with new manufacturing serial number 43321. The C-117D served valiantly with the USMC from December 1979 at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, until its withdrawal from use in 1979. In September 1985, it was registered as N835TD and became the last C-117D to serve with the USMC. It was later put on static display at MCAS Miramar, CA, and could also be seen at the Marine Corps Museum, MCAS El Toro, CA, on March 13, 1993. This image captures the essence of the C-117D's rich history in the United States military aviation, showcasing its distinctive markings and the pride of the Marines who operated it. With its powerful presence and iconic design, this aircraft remains an essential piece of aviation history.
