Built by Sultan Mehmet II between 1451 and 1452, the castle was constructed as a strategic defense mechanism prior to his conquest of Constantinople, now Istanbul. The fortress, also known as Rumeli Hisari or Rumeli Hisar, was completed in an impressive four-month timeframe. The Rumeli Hisari is a masterpiece of military architecture, featuring imposing ramparts, towering battlements, and strategically placed towers. The castle's design allowed it to control the Bosphorus Strait, a vital waterway connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and the Mediterranean.
