These ancient marine organisms, depicted in this illustration as Stylonurus ensiformis and Eurypterus remipes, are considered to be the earliest known arthropods with a true scorpion-like body plan. The Silurian period, which spanned from approximately 443 to 416 million years ago, marked a crucial stage in the evolution of life on Earth.
