The year was 1518, and Hernán Cortés and his men had embarked on a dangerous and uncertain journey to conquer the Aztec Empire. The Sierra Madre Mountains, a formidable range stretching from northern Mexico to the Pacific Ocean, presented a formidable challenge to the weary Conquistadors.
