Cavendish, born on December 24, 1833, was an English politician who dedicated his life to serving the Liberal party in various capacities. Cavendish's political career began in earnest when he was appointed as Chief Secretary for Ireland in 1868, a position he held until 1874. During his tenure, he worked closely with Prime Minister William E. Gladstone to implement a series of land reforms aimed at improving the living conditions of the Irish peasantry. Later, Cavendish served as War Secretary from 1880 to 1882, where he oversaw the British military response to various crises, including the Anglo-Afghan War and the Zulu War. His leadership and strategic acumen were instrumental in securing British interests during these tumultuous times. In 1886, Cavendish once again joined the Liberal government, this time as President of the Board of Trade. He continued to serve in numerous positions until 1905, when he was appointed as Lord President of the Council, a position he held until his death on March 9, 1908.
