It may seem like an odd job for a peer of the realm, but the Marquess of Bath doesn

It may seem like an odd job for a peer of the realm, but the Marquess of Bath doesn t mind that a bit. Sixty-year-old Lord Bath has been adopted as mascot of a tenpin bowling team. The Cavemen - named after Cheddar Caves which are owned by his family. Dressed in the right " gear" - team shirt and bowling boots - he tried his hand at the game. According to his coach, 23-year-old Sally Axford, who is engaged to one of the Cavemen, Lord Baths score of 85 was " not bad for a learner." May 1965 P017139

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from May 1965, we witness an unexpected sight - the Marquess of Bath embracing a rather unconventional role as the mascot of a tenpin bowling team. Despite his noble status as a peer of the realm, Lord Bath seems to relish in this peculiar job with great enthusiasm. Dressed impeccably in his team shirt and bowling boots, the sixty-year-old lord fearlessly takes on the challenge at hand. The Cavemen, aptly named after Cheddar Caves which are owned by his esteemed family, have found an unlikely supporter in Lord Bath. With determination in his eyes and a competitive spirit burning within him, he tries his hand at this popular game. Under the guidance of Sally Axford, who happens to be engaged to one of the Cavemen players and serves as their coach, Lord Bath shows remarkable potential for someone new to bowling. His score of 85 is hailed by Sally as "not bad for a learner" further solidifying that even nobility can excel outside their usual domains. This snapshot captures not only an amusing moment but also challenges societal expectations surrounding class distinctions. It reminds us that individuals should never shy away from exploring different passions or engaging in activities deemed unconventional for their social standing. As we delve into this intriguing glimpse into history through Memory Lane Prints' lens, let us celebrate Lord Bath's willingness to embrace new experiences regardless of how odd they may seem – truly showcasing that life is full of surprises waiting to be discovered.
