Voice Choir.
The only difference was that the 30-storng choir were singing in the coronary care unit at Newcastle General Hospital where Ron was a patient.
Ron had sung with the choir for seven years and was recovering in hospital after having his leg amputated following a thrombosis.
Ron, from Killingworth, asked the ward sister if the choir could came to the hospital and entertain him and the other patients. In this picture from our archives, dated November 19th 1970, the choir are in mid-chorus during the show - which went down a storm

It was a heartwarming reunion for Ron Collet as he joined his friends from the Backworth Male Voice Choir for an impromptu rehearsal. However, this time, their harmonious voices filled the corridors of the coronary care unit at Newcastle General Hospital. Ron, a patient recovering from a leg amputation due to thrombosis, had been part of the choir for seven years. In an act of pure kindness and compassion, Ron approached the ward sister with a special request - could his beloved choir come and bring joy to him and fellow patients? The answer was an enthusiastic yes. And so it happened on that memorable day in November 1970.
