A four month old baby was flown 800 miles, by a RAF Westland Puma helicopter, to Newcastle in mercy dash from an RAF camp in Germany.
A medical team was at the baby boys side as he flew to Newcastle.
They whisked the child to Newcastle General Hospital by ambulance after the landing at Richardson Road.
The baby, whose parents are from the North East, is understood to be suffering from an infection but is satisfactory. He was taken to a specialist unit at the hospital.
The childs mother, who came from Northallerton, and father made their own way to the hospital.
