Artwork of inflamed bronchial epithelium in asthma
Bronchial inflammation in asthma. Artwork of bron- chial epithelial tissue inflamed by asthma. A thick layer of mucus (green) covers the tissue. This is produced by goblet cells interspersed among ciliated epithelial cells. The connective tissue at the bottom contains enlarged blood vess- els (lower left) and numerous eosinophil white blood cells, which are also abundant in the mucus. Eosinophils play a major role in allergic inflam- mations. They secrete chemicals that are partly responsible for the bronchial constriction that occurs in asthma. Epithelial desquamation (shed- ding of outer layer of cells) is shown at right. The blue arrows symbolise drugs taken by inhaler

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate artwork of inflamed bronchial epithelium in asthma. The image depicts the detrimental effects of bronchial inflammation, with a thick layer of mucus (green) covering the tissue. This mucus is produced by goblet cells interspersed among ciliated epithelial cells, contributing to the obstruction and difficulty in breathing experienced by asthma patients. At the bottom of the image, one can observe enlarged blood vessels (lower left) within the connective tissue, along with numerous eosinophil white blood cells. Eosinophils play a significant role in allergic inflammations and are abundantly present in both the mucus and connective tissue. These specialized immune cells secrete chemicals that contribute to bronchial constriction, a hallmark symptom of asthma. The artwork also highlights epithelial desquamation on the right side, representing shedding of outer layers of cells. This process further contributes to airway obstruction and exacerbates respiratory distress for individuals living with this chronic condition. Symbolized by blue arrows are drugs taken via inhaler - an essential component in managing asthma symptoms effectively. While this mesmerizing artwork serves as a visual representation of disease pathology and drug action, it also emphasizes the importance of medical care and health interventions for those affected by bronchiole inflammation.
