Bleriot monoplane, Aldershot, 1912 C014 / 2042

Bleriot monoplane on the ground in Aldershot, UK, a training base for the British Army. The ICS refers to the International Correspondence Schools aviation company of London, UK. This aircraft is possibly a Bleriot XI model, which was widely used at the time for training and display purposes. Built from ash wood, with wire cross-bracing, there were single-seat and two-seat versions. It was an aircraft similar to this that was used by French aviator Louis Bleriot when he crossed the English Channel in 1909. This photograph, which dates from 1912, is from the Bain News Service, one of the USAs earliest news picture libraries
