The Castle Class, designed by Charles Collett, was an improvement on the earlier 5041 Class and was named after the famous Castle and Express passenger trains that ran on the GWR network. Swindon Shed, located in Swindon, Wiltshire, was the largest locomotive depot in the UK during the steam age.
