The Imperial Airways flying boat Canopus was overhauled at Hythe, Southampton, in preparation for her departure for Durban, to inaugurate the new Empire flying boat route between England and rural South Africa.
She will carry 10 passengers and more than a ton of mail.
Under the post offices world airmail scheme to come into operation within a week, all letters will be carried on the Empire route at the rate of 1 1/2d. per half ounce.
