Reef with coral and Anthias (Pseudanthias squamipinnis), Fiji
Anthias are members of the family Serranidae (basses, basslets, groupers) and make up the subfamily Anthiadinae. Anthias make up a sizeable portion of the population of pink, orange, and yellow reef fishes seen swarming in most coral reef photography and film. Anthias are mostly small, thus are quite popular within the ornamental fish trade. They form complex social structures based on the number of males and females and also their position on the reef itself, and are mainly zooplankton feeders. They occur in all tropical oceans and seas of the world

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the vibrant beauty of a reef teeming with life in Fiji. The mesmerizing scene captures a large group of Anthias, specifically Pseudanthias squamipinnis, gracefully swimming amidst the colorful coral formations. Anthias, belonging to the family Serranidae and subfamily Anthiadinae, are renowned for their striking pink, orange, and yellow hues that add an enchanting touch to any coral reef photography or film. Anthias are popular within the ornamental fish trade due to their small size and eye-catching appearance. However, this image reminds us of their crucial role in maintaining the delicate balance of marine ecosystems as zooplankton feeders. Found across tropical oceans and seas worldwide, these social creatures form intricate structures based on gender ratios and positioning within the reef itself. The tranquil underwater setting captured by photographer Danita Delimont evokes a sense of serenity while highlighting nature's unparalleled beauty. This vertical composition transports viewers into an awe-inspiring world where sea life thrives harmoniously amidst breathtaking surroundings. Immerse yourself in this stunning portrayal of nature's wonders – from the vivid colors of both fish and coral to the sheer abundance displayed by this school of Anthias.
