Melaka River (Malay: Sungai Melaka) is a river which flows through Melaka city in the Malaysian state of Melaka. It was once an important trade centre during the heyday of Malacca Sultanate in the 15th century and later, when it was under control of the Dutch East India Company (1641-1825).
It has lost most of this function in the present and is now a major tourist attraction.
In 2008 it was listed, together with George Town of Penang, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its long history
