EDITORS COMMENTS
In this black and white portrait captured by Luciano Caturegli, titled "duemila" we are confronted with a powerful depiction of the harsh realities faced by children in industrialized societies. The photograph transports us to an outdoor setting where a young child stands against a weathered factory wall, surrounded by billowing smoke from towering chimneys. The monochrome composition intensifies the somber mood, emphasizing the stark contrast between innocence and the polluted environment. The child's face is etched with both curiosity and resignation, as if contemplating the weight of their surroundings. Their presence amidst such industrial chaos serves as a poignant reminder of how pollution impacts even our most vulnerable members. Caturegli's masterful use of light and shadow adds depth to this figurative portrayal. As viewers, we cannot help but be drawn into the narrative unfolding before us - one that exposes society's disregard for environmental consequences on future generations. This thought-provoking image challenges us to reflect upon our own responsibility towards creating sustainable environments for all children worldwide. It prompts us to question whether progress should come at such high costs or if there is room for change within our industries. "Duemila" invites contemplation about not only the immediate impact of pollution but also its long-term effects on human lives. Through this photograph, Caturegli compels us to confront uncomfortable truths while urging action towards building a cleaner and safer world for every child's future.
