Kangaroo's Got Milk! Joey on the Way Back to Fill Up
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this adorable close-up shot, we catch a glimpse of an Eastern Grey Kangaroo's empty pouch in Murrammang National Park, Australia. But fear not, because the joey will soon return for a refreshing milk session from the outside! Known for their gigantic long feet and found in various habitats across Australia, these kangaroos live in mobs with separate hierarchies for males and females. Within these mobs, they form extended family groups consisting of dominant males, several females, and their young. While young males tend to form separate groups and old battle-worn males prefer solitude, adult males engage in challenging battles to establish their rank within the mob hierarchy. The higher a male's status, the more lucky ladies he gets to mate with! The life cycle of an Eastern Grey Kangaroo is truly fascinating. After 36 months of gestation (yes, you read that right!), a female gives birth to one tiny embryo weighing less than 1 gram. This little naked and blind wanderer then finds its way into its mother's pouch and attaches itself to a teat. After spending 44 weeks inside the cozy pouch, our joey here starts venturing out into the outside world while still returning home for some quality bonding time with momma kangaroo. So keep your eyes peeled because this cute little joey will be back soon for another round of milk-filled adventures!
