RFA GOLD ROVER first joined HMS LANCASTER in the Falklands Islands back in June 2015 during the unforgiving South Atlantic winter. Since then, the two Ships have sailed to warmer climes, crossing the Atlantic to the remote island of Tristan Da Cunha, then on to conduct a month long maintenance period in South Africa. From there, they sailed in company up the West Coast of Africa with stops including Angola, the British Overseas territory of St Helena, Ghana and Togo.
Currently deployed to the South Atlantic, RFA Gold Rover stands ready to support Royal Navy warships operating in the region and will remain on task until 2017 when she comes to the end of her career. Pictured is HMS Lancaster afer her last Replenishment at sea (RAS) with RFA Gold Rover

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the RFA GOLD ROVER and HMS LANCASTER sailing together on their Atlantic Patrol Task (South) duties. The image captures the beauty of these two impressive vessels as they navigate the vast ocean. The story behind this photo is equally fascinating. RFA GOLD ROVER first joined forces with HMS LANCASTER in the harsh South Atlantic winter of June 2015, stationed in the Falklands Islands. Since then, these ships have embarked on numerous voyages to warmer destinations, including Tristan Da Cunha and South Africa for maintenance purposes. Their journey continued along the West Coast of Africa, making stops at various countries such as Angola, St Helena (a British Overseas territory), Ghana, and Togo. Currently deployed in the South Atlantic region, RFA Gold Rover remains dedicated to supporting Royal Navy warships until her retirement in 2017. In this particular moment captured by L (Phot) Will Haigh from Armed Forces, we witness HMS Lancaster during her last Replenishment at Sea (RAS) with RFA Gold Rover. The clear blue sky and pristine ocean serve as a breathtaking backdrop for these remarkable naval vessels. Overall, this print not only highlights the strength and elegance of both ships but also tells a compelling tale of their extensive journeys across different parts of the world's oceans.
