EDITORS COMMENTS
This vibrant and comical lithograph, titled "Glass Windows. A. D. 1180" takes us back in time to medieval England with a satirical twist. Created by the talented artist Arthur Moreland in 1905, this print captures the essence of humor and visual storytelling. The illustration is part of the renowned collection called Humors of History, showcasing historical events through a humorous lens. In this particular piece, Moreland pokes fun at the glass windows of that era, which were considered a luxury and status symbol. With his clever wit and artistic skill, Moreland depicts an exaggerated scene where German craftsmen are seen installing glass windows in an English castle. The cartoonish characters add to the comedic effect as they struggle with their task amidst chaos and hilarity. Through this satirical drawing, Moreland not only entertains but also comments on cultural differences between England and Germany during that period. It serves as a reminder that even centuries ago, people found amusement in poking fun at each other's customs and traditions. This lithograph offers viewers a glimpse into history while providing light-hearted entertainment. Its vivid colors and detailed composition make it an excellent addition to any art collection or display dedicated to European culture or satire from yesteryears.
