EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur of The Great Room at 19 Arlington Street, Green Park, London. Taken by an English photographer in the 20th century, it is a stunning representation of Robert Adam's interior design. The room itself was designed by Adam around 1763 for Sir Lawrence Dundas. It features exquisite stucco plasterwork on the ceiling and neo-classical architecture throughout. The opulent chandelier hanging from above adds a touch of elegance to the space. One cannot help but be drawn to the Gobelins Boucher-Neilson tapestries that adorn the walls. These tapestries were originally from Moor Park, Hertfordshire and were purchased by Dundas in 1763. When he passed away, they were transferred to this room in 1784 before being sold. The attention to detail is evident even in the carpet, which was specially designed by Adam himself. Every element within this room speaks volumes about its luxurious nature and impeccable taste. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are transported back to the splendor of Georgian England. It serves as a reminder of the incredible craftsmanship and artistic vision that went into creating such magnificent country houses during this era. This print is not just a piece of art; it is a window into history—a testament to Robert Adam's genius and his contribution to neoclassical design.
