EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the dramatic scene of the Death of Saint Louis in Palestine in 1270, as depicted in "Histoire de France" by L. -P. Anquetil, published in 1851. The French School from the 19th century skillfully brings this historical event to life with their exquisite engraving. In this poignant image, we witness the final moments of King Louis IX, also known as Saint Louis, during his crusade to Palestine. Surrounded by a somber atmosphere and a backdrop reminiscent of Arab civilization, the viewer is transported back to the Middle Ages.
