Painted in 1514-15, this mixed media on canvas artwork measures 139 x 112 cm and is housed in the Kunstmuseum in Basel, Switzerland. The painting depicts a poignant scene of religious devotion amidst a landscape ravaged by plague. Saint Anne lovingly holds the infant Virgin Mary while standing beside her is Saint James the Great, one of Jesus' apostles. The figures are surrounded by an aura of holiness as indicated by their radiant halos.
