EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate beauty of the Egyptian zodiac, found within the Temple of Dendera. Created by an English School artist in the 19th century, this coloured engraving transports us back to ancient times, offering a glimpse into Egypt's rich history and religious beliefs. The image depicts a rectangular panel adorned with meticulously carved symbols representing the twelve signs of the zodiac. Each symbol is intricately detailed and surrounded by hieroglyphics, adding an air of mystery and intrigue to this archaeological discovery. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece of art, we are reminded of how deeply intertwined religion and science were in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians believed that celestial bodies held great significance in their daily lives and used astrology as a means to understand their destinies. The Temple of Dendera itself was dedicated to Hathor, the goddess associated with love, beauty, music, and fertility. It served as both a place of worship and an astronomical observatory where priests studied celestial movements for divination purposes. Through this photograph print from Fine Art Finder's collection by Bridgeman Images, we are transported back in time to witness not only exquisite craftsmanship but also gain insight into one civilization's profound connection between spirituality and scientific exploration.
