(19th century); Private Collection; (add.info.: The plate shows three members of the crow family: The Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius) with bluish wing feathers and brownish plumage, the Spotted Nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes) with black, white-spotted plumage, and the Alpine Chough (Pyrrhocorax alpinus, now Pyrrhocorax graculus) with completely black plumage and yellow bill. These birds inhabit various woodland habitats across Europe, with the Alpine Chough living in high mountains. All three species play an important role in dispersing seeds and nuts.
