With its characteristic gray coat, upright mane and longer ears, it combines features of both parent species, though its body structure is more horse-like with typical zebra-like stripes on the legs. Labeled as "Métis femelle d'Âne et de Jument" in the image, this working animal has been valued for millennia for its endurance, surefootedness and robustness, and is used worldwide as a pack and riding animal.
