(19th century); Private Collection; (add.info.: The plate depicts various neuropterans, including the snakefly (Raphidia notata) with its characteristic elongated prothorax, the scorpionfly (Panorpa communis) with its scorpion-like abdomen tip in males, and the lacewing (Hemerobius perla) with its greenish, net-like wings as well as its larva and an infested leaf. Also shown is the male of the great caddisfly (Phryganea grandis). These insects are beneficial predators of aphids and other pests, making them important allies in biological pest control.
