This lithograph, published in 1897, showcases the diverse beauty of Araceae, a family of monocotyledonous flowering plants found across the globe. The image features sixteen stunning species predominantly found in tropical regions. Each plant is meticulously illustrated and labeled for easy identification. The print begins with Spathicarpa hastifolia (or Spathicarpa sagittifolia), followed by Anthurium andreanum and Anthurium pedatoradiatum, displaying their vibrant blooms and intricate leaf patterns. Dieffenbachia Leopoldi stands tall with its large leaves while American bittersweet (Celastrus scandens or Photos scadens) intertwines gracefully. Further along, Xanthosoma violaceum displays its velvety purple hues alongside Steudnera colocasiifolia's impressive size. Philodendron glaziovii and Philodendron cannifolium exhibit their lush foliage before Lacy tree philodendron (Philodendron bipinnatifidum or Philodendron bipinnatifolium) steals the show with its intricately divided leaves. Dracontium gigas commands attention with its imposing presence while Konjak (Amorphophallus konjac or Amorphophallus rivieri) concludes this botanical journey on an exotic note. This lithograph is a testament to Olof Winkler's artistic talent as he masterfully captures the essence of these remarkable plants.
