EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the medieval era, where Alexander the Great's audacious exploration of the sea unfolds before our eyes. In this retro revival artwork, we witness a remarkable scene as Alexander lowers himself into the depths of the ocean inside a glass barrel. The setting is adorned with a majestic sailing ship, evoking nostalgia for historical voyages and adventures. As our gaze delves deeper into this black and white woodcut illustration, we are confronted by an awe-inspiring sea monster lurking in the shadows. This mythical creature adds an element of danger and excitement to Alexander's underwater expedition. The artist skillfully captures the essence of obsolete diving techniques from centuries past. The engraved image showcases a bell-shaped diving apparatus reminiscent of medieval diving bells used for exploring beneath the waves. It transports us to an age when mankind dared to venture below land features and uncover hidden wonders on the ocean floor. With its intricate details and old-fashioned charm, this print immerses us in history while igniting our imagination with tales of adventure and exploration. Duncan1890's work seamlessly blends styles from different eras, creating a unique visual experience that bridges past and present. Whether you are fascinated by ancient legends or simply appreciate fine artistry, this antique-inspired print offers a glimpse into forgotten realms where bravery met curiosity in pursuit of discovery.
