Island on river, Turret Rock, Nakwakto Rapids holding world record for fastest current of any navigable waterway, Northern British Columbia, Canada

Slingsby Channel is a strait on the north side of Bramham Island in the Queen Charlotte Strait region of the Central Coast of British Columbia. It is one of only two entrances to Seymour Inlet and the associated maze of waterways inland, which lie to the northeast of Bramham. The other entrance is Schooner Channel, formerly Schooner Passage, on the east side of that island. Through the Slingsby Channel flows the worlds strongest current, the Nakwakto Rapids, that has been measured at speeds up to 18.4 miles per hour. The current is so fast at times, that people have tied a rope to Turret Rock, which is located right in the middle of the rapids, and then water-skied

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the serene beauty of an island nestled in the midst of a powerful river. Known as Turret Rock, this small piece of land is located within the Slingsby Channel in Northern British Columbia, Canada. The channel serves as one of only two entrances to Seymour Inlet and its intricate network of waterways that stretch inland. However, what truly sets this location apart is its claim to fame - holding the world record for being home to the fastest current on any navigable waterway. The Nakwakto Rapids flow through the Slingsby Channel with such force that speeds have been measured at an astonishing 18.4 miles per hour. The sheer power and intensity of these rapids are so remarkable that locals have even tied a rope to Turret Rock, situated right in the heart of this rushing torrent, allowing them to partake in exhilarating activities like water skiing. In this photograph by Danita Delimont from Fine Art Storehouse, nature's grandeur meets tranquility as fluffy clouds dotting a clear sky provide a picturesque backdrop for this extraordinary scene. It serves as a reminder that amidst untamed forces lies unparalleled beauty waiting to be explored and admired.
