EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the bustling streets of London in 1895. The focal point is the majestic steeple of St Mary-Le-Bow, rising proudly above a crowded Cheapside. However, upon closer inspection, one realizes that large sections of the crowds and traffic have been cleverly added artificially to enhance the sense of liveliness. The image transports us to a time when horse-drawn carriages filled the streets, while pedestrians hurriedly made their way through this vibrant cityscape. The architectural beauty of St Mary-Le-Bow stands as a testament to London's rich history and religious heritage. The composition skillfully captures both the grandeur of the church's spire and its harmonious integration into an urban setting. This archival photograph allows us to appreciate not only the intricate details of its facade but also how it complements its surroundings. As we gaze at this remarkable piece from London Stereoscopic Company's collection, we are reminded that art has always played a significant role in documenting our cultural heritage. It serves as a window into bygone eras, evoking emotions and sparking curiosity about life in another time. With its impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail, this print invites us on a journey through history – an exploration where architecture meets artistry amidst a sea of people who once walked these very same streets over a century ago.
