Painted by the esteemed artist Sir Anthonis van Dyck, this portrait exudes a sense of majesty and power that befits a monarch. The fine artistry captured on paper through pencil strokes brings out every intricate detail of Charles I's visage. Known as King Charles the Martyr or Saint Charles Stuart after his execution in 1649, he became an iconic symbol for those who opposed Cromwell's regime. Now housed within the prestigious collection at Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, this portrait continues to captivate viewers with its timeless allure. It stands as a reminder of an era marked by political turmoil yet immortalizes one man whose fate would forever shape British history.
