EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable portrait of Natalia Goncharova, an influential figure in Russian history. Created by an anonymous artist during the 18th century, this painting captures the essence of Natalia's beauty and grace. Natalia Goncharova was not only known for her striking appearance but also for being the wife of Alexander Pushkin, one of Russia's greatest poets. This portrait reflects the romanticism that surrounded their relationship and offers a glimpse into their world. The fine art image is believed to have been discovered in the collection of The Polotnyany zavod estate, located in Kaluga, at some point during the 1820s. The use of watercolour and gouache on horn adds a unique texture to this piece, enhancing its overall appeal. While we may never know who exactly painted this exquisite portrait or why it was created, its significance lies in its ability to immortalize Natalia Goncharova as a symbol of beauty and inspiration. As we admire this print today, we are reminded of her profound impact on Russian culture and her enduring legacy alongside her husband Alexander Pushkin.
