Commissioned by Emperor Rudolf II, this masterpiece is a testament to the rich cultural and scientific heritage of the Netherlands during the 16th and 17th centuries. Anselmus de Boodt, a prominent figure in the natural history community, meticulously captured the intricate details of the iris, showcasing its vibrant purple color and elegant form. The artwork was executed using a combination of techniques, including brushwork, chalk, ink, and possibly deck paint, on paper.
